After many health battles with the enemy, God called Brother Raymond C. Scott from the battlefield peacefully and fully prepared to receive his crown of glory in the wee hours of Sunday morning, December 28, 2025.
Brother Scott was born to the late Matthew and Mary Harris Scott on June 21, 1947, in Woodside, Louisiana, where he was baptized at an early age. After graduating from Dunbar High School in 1965, he moved to Dallas, Texas, where he pursued employment with a local newspaper and other occupations. He later returned home and began a career as a correctional officer at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, from which he retired after more than 20 years of dedicated service.
During this time, he was loved, respected, and lovingly adopted into the Wright family. After retirement, he dedicated his life to the things he enjoyed most, including fishing, hunting, gardening, raising livestock, and enjoying spending time with his family. He also enjoyed watching football games, mainly to keep up with the scores for whichever football board he was playing. His heart was as big as it could be, and his bold correctional officer mentality never left him.
Unbeknownst to many, Brother Scott was blessed with three biological children: Michelle, Suzanne, and Raymond Scott Jr., all of Desoto, TX. Brother Scott has departed this earthly realm, but he leaves behind cherished memories of his selfless acts of kindness and his determination to live life to the fullest on his own terms, despite visible obstacles. These precious memories will forever be engraved in the hearts of his three Godly adopted daughters: Carla L. Wright and Ke’Iree J. Simmons, both of Baton Rouge, LA, and Charlotte A. Wright of Simmesport, LA. They blessed him with four grandchildren, Sherlyn, Tedrick, D’Litra, and Mecola; and eight great-grandchildren, Ajhani RayMond, A’Nijah, Jaioni, A’Jhari, A’Nhari, Jai’Ahri, Jer’myni, and Kohen, who proudly and fiercely loved him beyond measure.
He is also survived by three Godchildren, Marlania Wright, Denell Vincent(Jenna), and Lorenzo Sago; three sisters, Weary Brathwaite of West Covina, CA, Linda Shaw of Melville, LA, and Banessa Hernandez (Luis Antonio) of Houston, TX; two brothers, Clyde Scott and Vernon Scott, both of Melville, LA; one Godly sister-in-law, Clynethia Anderson of Simmesport, LA; and two Godly brothers-in-law, Cleveland Wright of Simmesport, LA, and Rev. Clayton Wright of Houston, TX; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents(aforementioned); a loving and devoted companion, Sister Ethel Wright; four brothers, Matthew Scott Jr., David Scott, John Scott, and Robert Scott; one brother-in-law, Mack Shaw; and one niece, Terrica Lynn Cooper.
